20 Most Critically Adored Films Of 2015

11. What We Do In The Shadows

Rotten Tomatoes: 97% From 143 Reviews What We Do In The Shadows sounds a lot like it shouldn't work: the mockumentary style feels like it belongs last decade, and the vampire love is also down to dregs, but nobody seems to have told Taika Waititi or Jemaine Clement. They combined to make a hilariously, vastly intelligent comedy that perfectly mimics The Real World and packs in some serious, serious laughs. The film cleverly swipes at modernism without ever preaching, and there would have been more than enough silliness even if the film-makers had decided to teach some more overt lessons. Thanks to this film - at least in parts - we now get to see a Thor film with some of the humour and self-awareness that Kenneth Branagh injected into the original. So that's reason to celebrate it even more. Sample Review:
"If Twilight made you queasy and Dark Shadows felt like a missed opportunity, this pitch-perfect genre spoof is worth relishing." - Claudia Puig, USA Today
