20 Most Anticipated 2017 Movies
7. Kong: Skull Island
What Is It? A new King Kong movie, but instead of detailing of how beauty killed the beast, this is more Ape-ocalypse Now; the film is set in the 1970s and takes a strong cue of Vietnam War cinema. Although the biggest difference is the ape himself, who is now 100 feet tall ahead of a planned showdown with Godzilla. Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston lead an all-star cast and The Kings Of Summer's Jordan Vogt-Roberts directs.
When's It Out? 10th March
Why Will It Be Awesome? King Kong is such an enduring movie monster that to keep him locked into the same arc in every interpretation seems a real shame, and based on the Comic-Con teaser there's some real style to this one. Additionally, to do it ahead of a shared universe makes it that more interesting.
Any Concerns? Vogt-Roberts is one of the most surprising blockbuster directors of 2017, and that does beg the question of how he'll handle the big budget more than in other cases. The Godzilla setup does also throw up some worries; what if the film winds up a treading-water introduction ahead of the versus movie?
