6. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
What Is It? James Gunn's bringing the Guardians back, and things are much more epic this time; the team is joined by Yondu (Michael Rooker), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and new character Mantis (Pom Klementieff), the threat is even more cosmic (somehow) and Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) will finally confront his father (Kurt Russell), Ego the Living Planet. The only thing smaller is Groot, who is still firmly in his baby stage.
When's It Out? 28th April (UK), 5th May (US)
Why Will It Be Awesome? Guardians Of The Galaxy was a real treat, a modern, irreverent Star Wars, and everything about the makeup of the humorously titled Vol. 2 points to it being a classic sequel; crucially Gunn's back, but there's a lot of new elements to keep things fresh. And, now the franchise is a proven hit, there's more freedom to embrace some of the property's inherent weirdness.
Any Concerns? There's a real risk of second album syndrome. Guardians 1 was such a hit because it wasn't expected to be as culturally pervasive as it was, and in trying too hard at replicating that weirdness and surprise it could wind up confused and alienating fans. After all, look at what happened to Age Of Ultron.
