18. God Particle
What Is It? Daniel Brühl, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O'Dowd and David Oyelowo are astronauts who find their space station floating through the void after Earth vanishes, with unknown director Julius Onah guiding them through the isolation (which is swiftly interrupted by a mysterious force). Crucially, it's produced by J.J. Abrams.
When's It Out? 24th February
Why Will It Be Awesome? It's quite possibly Cloverfield 3. The concept and acting caliber of God Particle is certainly enough to get you excited, but the fact it's another of the micro-budget sci-fi films Bad Robot are making for Paramount, of which 10 Cloverfield Lane (formerly Valencia formerly The Cellar) was the first, it's hard not to get a little bit conspiratory. Dan Trachtenberg's film established Cloverfield as an anthology series formed of genre films with a twist, and this fits that perfectly.
Any Concerns? If it's not, a key allure is gone (the assumption so far is that the Cloverfield name is being kept for top class movies). There's also a worry that Onah may not be able to shoulder a film even of this size; he's a proven short film director, but his single feature, The Girl Is In Trouble, met a tepid response.
