15. War For The Planet Of The Apes
What Is It? It's risen. It's dawned. And now it's worth fighting for. The POTA prequels begin to move towards a more recognisable post-apocalyptic world as the apes, led by Andy Serkis' Caesar, take the fight to the humans. Meanwhile Charlton Heston sits in space sucking on his cigars and making sexist comments.
When's It Out? 14th July
Why Will It Be Awesome? This has been the movie fans of Planet Of The Apes have wanted since the origin series was first floated; the moment when apes finally seize control. The film is in broad concept a remake of Battle For The Planet Of The Apes, far and away the worst film in the original run, which offers up plenty of opportunity for improvement. And Andy Serkis' brilliance as the chimp revolutionary goes without saying.
Any Concerns? This was the movie we were supposed to get in 2014, but Matt Reeves chose to tell a filler story with Dawn instead. Fox clearly want a multi-film franchise, and there's a danger War will end up being just another step in the journey to the Statue of Liberty's destruction. Give us Monkey Planet already.
