Not so much a sequel as a prequel spin-off from 2013s The Conjuring. James Wan has produced this film with The Conjurings cinematographer, John R. Leonetti stepping up to the mark. This focuses on the Annabelle doll from the first film which we first met during the opening moments of the film and then in a tense mid-section in the Warrens possessed items room. The film centres on John Gordon as he buys the Annabelle doll for his pregnant wife. Although initially pleased with the gift, all turns nasty when a satanic cult breaks into their house, beats the couple and conjures an entity to possess the doll. While spin-offs dont often work, this does have the added benefit of being a period piece and also its been a while since there was a scary doll movie that didnt involve Chucky. This probably wont reach the box-office heights of The Conjuring but chances are itll be an effective shocker with a good atmosphere.
