Even though it seemed impossible to capture the demonic magic of the original Evil Dead trilogy, Evil Dead Rise came pretty damn close. Lee Cronin's reboot was a roaring success thanks to its sharp editing, inventive gore, and astounding practical effects. (Also, it made an entire generation terrified of cheese graters forever.)

Rise did so well that the original director and star, Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell, got together to plan the franchise's future. After much deliberation, Infested director Sebastian Vanicek was chosen to direct the next instalment, which will be a spin-off rather than a direct sequel.

But don't worry, sequels are on the way! In an interview with ComicBook.com, Campbell stated:

We're going to try and do them more like every two or three years rather than every 10 years. It's also the first time Sam is working with his brother Ivan to create an overall Bible that will give future writers and directors an idea of where this thing should go next to potentially tie in some of these stories."

Based on Campbell's interview, the spin-off is merely the beginning of what's to come. In fact, Sam Raimi personally selected Francis Galluppi to write and direct another Evil Dead film in the near future.

Although the release dates of Evil Dead films have always been far and between, it looks like we'll have a whole gaggle of Deadite features soon enough.
