Though 2021's Resident Evil movie reboot Welcome to Raccoon City underperformed at the box office, the brand carries so much weight and visibility with horror fans that there was never any chance that the producers would wait long to take another stab at it.

And while it hasn't been officially announced, reputed insider Jeff Sneider claims that Sony Pictures is fast-tracking a new Resident Evil into production, and as tough as it is to believe, they're reportedly even courting Barbarian director Zach Cregger to helm.

Either way, it's easy to believe that a new Resident Evil film will get before cameras next year for a 2026 drop, landing just in time for the original game's 30th anniversary.
