12. Clayface
Far away from the mega-budget comic book sequels due for release soon, we have the decidedly weirder Clayface, an origin story for DC's iconic supervillain that will be part of James Gunn's DC Universe.
Despite the title character seemingly necessitating a hefty budget, Clayface is actually being produced for a shockingly svelte $40 million, and the trailer suggests it will place far more emphasis on his shapeshifting infiltration abilities rather than lingering on his grotesque pure form.
James Watkins (Eden Lake, Speak No Evil remake) is directing, while the script has intriguingly been co-written by the great Mike Flanagan, and perhaps most compellingly of all, Gunn has confirmed that the production shot for an R rating.
Tom Rhys Harries stars as protagonist Matt Hagen alongside Naomi Ackie, David Dencik, Max Minghella, and Eddie Marsan, and if this is nearly as intense and gnarly as it looks from the trailers, it could be a major feather in the cap of Gunn's burgeoning cinematic universe.
Clayface releases on October 23.
