Edgar Wright returns with a film unlike anything else he's made before - a time-hopping psychological horror which appears to be playing vocal homage to the Italian giallo genre.

Thomasin McKenzie stars as a young woman who is transported back to 1960s London, where she's placed in the body of her idol, a singer named Sandy (Anya Taylor-Joy).

Though the marketing is keeping specifics vague, it implies a David Lynch-esque collision of identities and time periods, and from what little we've seen so far, looks like a visual stunner.

In addition to McKenzie and Taylor-Joy, the cast includes Matt Smith, Terence Stamp, and in their posthumously released final roles, Diana Rigg and Margaret Nolan.

If Wright pulls it off, this could mark the beginnings of an exciting new chapter in his career.

Last Night in Soho releases on October 29.
