French madman Leos Carax (Holy Motors) finally returns with his first film in almost a decade, and it sounds precisely as bonkers as his fans should expect.

A surreal musical written and scored by legendary pop band Sparks, Annette stars Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard as a couple whose life changes forever with the birth of their titular daughter.

The trailer certainly sells a typically off-kilter viewing experience, and early reviews from the Cannes Film Festival seemingly confirm Annette to be a stylistically sumptuous, brilliantly acted, and yes, insanely weird 139-minute fever dream of a movie.

It clearly won't be for everyone, but for adventurous viewers craving something totally unique, it'll be a must-see.

Annette releases on August 6.
