Wes Anderson's long-delayed new film is finally hitting cinemas in an awards-friendly year-end release slot, suggesting Searchlight Pictures has high hopes for the movie's Oscar prospects.

The anthology dramedy will revolve around the French foreign bureau of the titular Kansas newspaper as they create their final issue, and true to form, the marketing suggests it will be visually stunning, hilarious, and well, hilariously weird.

The cast is comprised of both Anderson newcomers and old friends alike - Benicio del Toro, Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Frances McDormand, Timothée Chalamet, Lyna Khoudri, Jeffrey Wright, Mathieu Amalric, Stephen Park, Bill Murray, and Owen Wilson - ensuring the film boasts one of the year's most enviable ensembles.

Early reviews from Cannes have been predominantly raves, so the hype seems justified.

The French Dispatch is set to release on October 22.
