As much as film buffs might scoff at the idea of anyone remaking Alfred Hitchcock's legendary 1940 psychological thriller romance, director Ben Wheatley (Kill List, High-Rise, Free Fire) sure is nothing if not a bold pick for the job.

Moreover, Wheatley's film is designed less as a remake and more as a re-adaptation of Daphne du Maurier's 1938 novel, which revolves around a newlywed young woman (Lily James) who finds herself haunted by the memory of her husband's (Armie Hammer) late first wife, Rebecca.

With a supporting cast including Kristin Scott Thomas (as the fiendish Mrs. Danvers), Keeley Hawes, Sam Riley, and Ann Dowd, as well as a script co-written by Jane Goldman (Kick-Ass, X-Men: First Class, Kingsman), it clearly has all the talent necessary to deliver an off-kilter riff on the classic tale.

With Wheatley in charge, it's clearly going to be anything but a by-the-book, hack-for-hire rehash job.
