20 Most Anticipated Sci-Fi Movies Arriving In 2026
16. Masters of the Universe
UK release date: 5th June
Jared Leto can do no right at the moment, despite having been in more great films than most actors and having won an Oscar for his efforts. But negative audience sentiment hasn’t stopped the big studios (MGM/Amazon, Disney, Sony) plonking him right in the middle of whatever they want - and what they want is so often a big franchise tentpole.
Don’t expect that to change anytime soon, because Leto will be playing Skeletor in next year’s Masters of the Universe live-action film. Rather than dampen our hopes, however, this news has buoyed them: Skeletor demands someone who is willing to go to extremes (Niander Wallace in Blade Runner 2049), chew a bit of scenery (Paolo in House of Gucci), and ham it up big-style (Joker in Suicide Squad). And Jared Leto's also opposite an impressive cast.
Bottoms’ (2023) Nicholas Galitzine will be playing Prince Adam, Idris Elba is his man-at-arms Duncan, Alison Brie will be Evil-Lyn, and sci-fi stalwart Morena Baccarin is holding things down as the Sorceress. With Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) and Bumblebee’s (2018) Travis Knight at the helm, Masters of the Universe is on track to be big, bright, loud, and pretty much everything you’d want from a silver screen adaptation of the beloved cartoon.
