20 Most Controversial Film Endings Since 2000

16. Kingsman: The Secret Service

What's it about? Taron Egerton stars as Gary "Eggsy" Unwin, a wayward London youth who is drafted as a potential recruit for a secret spy organization by veteran Kingsman agent Harry Hart (Colin Firth). As he undergoes his training his operations become "real world" as Richmond Valentine (Samuel L. Jackson with a wonderfully ridiculous lisp) prepares to trigger the end of the world. How does it end? Inside Valentine's secret base, Eggsy discovers a princess trapped in one of the cells who promises him anal sex if he saves the world and rescues her. After killing Valentine he returns to her cell to collect his "reward". Why was it controversial? Some feminist groups didn't take too kindly to what they saw as a crass joke, accusing director Matthew Vaughn of being a "misogynist". As well as being a deliberate exaggeration of the familiar Bond girl ending, Vaughn argued that it was actually empowering and should be taken with tongue firmly in cheek.
