20 Most Cringe-Worthy One-Liners In Movie History

6. "I'm Just A Girl, Standing In Front Of A Boy..." - Notting Hill

Another syrupy, climactic romantic gesture scene featuring Hugh Grant makes the list, of course, this time with Grant attempting to shoot starlet Julia Roberts down, only for her to tell him, "I'm also just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her."

It's a line that's warmed the heart of millions of middle-aged woman the world over, but it's also prime cinematic Swiss cheese, a line that probably read well on the page, but once it's read aloud and you give it any critical thought whatsoever, it becomes laughable.

Not even a world-class talent like Julia Roberts can do much with this, sadly, and the fact she uses the pronouns "boy" and "girl" despite them both being fully-grown adults is really, really weird.
