20 Most Disappointing Movies of 2025

6. The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Disney tried their absolute damnedest to sell The Fantastic Four: First Steps as the most important Marvel Cinematic Universe movie in years - in addition to kickstarting Phase Six, it would link directly to the all-important upcoming tentpole Avengers: Doomsday, and by extension its sequel Avengers: Secret Wars.

And what can really be said about the new Fantastic Four? It's fine.

It's certainly better than any of the previous Fantastic Four films, but that's quite the low bar to clear. This is competent yet unremarkable work - a passable ensemble superhero flick but one that leaves the titular supergroup making shockingly little impression.

Given that the Fantastic Four are going to be a major fixture throughout Phase Six and perhaps beyond, this was far from a fully persuasive coming-out party for them, both in terms of its generic story and the so-so chemistry between its likeable cast.

Also, let us once and for all retire CGI babies, because Hollywood has proven time and time again that they just don't work.
