Warcraft producers Legendary Pictures confirmed in November that they had acquired both the movie and TV rights to Frank Herbert's legendary sci-fi opus Dune, as was so controversially adapted to the screen by David Lynch in 1984.

Numerous attempts to get the ball rolling on a re-adaptation have taken place since then, but the trail went cold in 2011 until last month's announcement.

Legendary's acquisition is especially interesting considering how notoriously selective the Herbert estate has been in the past with the Dune rights, so they must've made quite the pitch to win them over.

Of course, this isn't 100% confirmation a Dune movie is actually happening anytime soon, but by snapping up movie and TV rights, they're clearly serious about some major world-building here.
