Mel Gibson announced in June that his enormously successful and highly controversial 2004 biblical epic The Passion of the Christ will be receiving a sequel, titled Resurrection, covering the three days between Jesus' death and his return.

Gibson will re-team with his frequent screenwriter, Oscar nominee Randall Wallace, for the movie, which he is believed to direct.

Details are scant on who will star (namely whether Jim Caviezel will return as Jesus), but Gibson has stated that the film will feature scenes in Hell, and won't be made for a few years due to the size and scale of the project.

As the success of Hacksaw Ridge has essentially seen Gibson pulled back into the Hollywood limelight after a decade in well-deserved exile, he may find investors and actors lining up to join his new project once again.
