While Sicario was one of the best films of last year, it honestly seemed like a "one and done" kinda deal, with all the major plot threads wrapped up nicely enough.
However, all that chatter about a sequel actually went somewhere with the already-shooting Soldado, which will focus on Benicio del Toro's character and also see the return of Josh Brolin and Jeffrey Donovan.
Though it's unfortunate that the first film's director, Denis Villeneuve, won't be returning, a solid replacement has been found in Stefano Sollima, who directed several episodes of the acclaimed TV crime drama Gomorrah.
The lack of Emily Blunt, meanwhile, actually makes total sense considering how the first movie ended. If del Toro manages to be anywhere near as bada** as in the original, then this should be an easy win (even if you probably shouldn't expect it to meet or top Sicario).
