8. The Lion King

Release Date: July 19

Billed As: A photo-realistic remake of The Lion King which will follow the same heartbreaking journey of Lion cub Simba (voiced by Donald Glover) after the murder of his beloved father. Simba goes on to learn about the true meaning of bravery, responsibility and adulthood.

Hype: Out of all the animated Disney movies, The Lion King is one of the most loved. On the other hand, it seems to be the strangest choice to turn into a live-action adaptation considering the movie contains zero humans – but the photo-realism could work.

There’s very little talking in the trailers released so far – apart from a voiceover from James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa – so it’s certainly intriguing to see exactly how everything will come together and whether or not it will work.

Fans are still excited nonetheless as they’ve already been comparing footage side by side from the trailer and the original film. The star-studded cast, with the likes of Seth Rogen (Pumbaa), Billy Eichner (Timon) and Beyoncé (Nala) only add to the hype.
