18. Aladdin

Release Date: May 24

Billed As: A street thief called Aladdin (Mena Massoud) finds a magic lamp to turn himself into a Prince so he can win the heart of Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott). But a power-hungry Grand Vizier (Marwan Kenzari) also seeks the lamp, which causes trouble for him.

Hype: As a live-action remake of the beloved Disney original, Aladdin looks like it’s going to be a lavish story which will hopefully have special effects on par with Disney’s 2017 live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.

Will Smith also stars as the iconic genie, who was originally voiced by the late, great Robin Williams. Smith said he “found a lane that pays homage” to Williams’ performance whilst still allowing the role to be his own thing.

Smith’s first appearance as the blue genie caused fits of laughter, but he actually fits rather well into world shown in the trailer. Whilst his role will still likely have fans divided, it seems like it could be quite enjoyable, along with the rest of the movie. We’ll have to see if the movie manages to pull everything off.
