20 Most Iconic Villain Introductions In Movie History
11. Roy Batty - Blade Runner
The character of Roy Batty in Blade Runner is one of the more complex villains to have graced the silver screen - he might appear to be a ruthless killer but there's an underlying motive which is far more rational than most movie bad guys - to extend his life and the life of his fellow Replicants beyond the built-in four years established by their manufacturers. The first scene in which he appears might be a simple conversation on the surface but it literally oozes tension, as Batty (a pitch perfect performance from Rutger Hauer) and another Replicant Leon (Brion James) interrogate a hapless scientist in an eye production laboratory. Here Batty comes across as a truly menacing villain - to see him become something entirely different by the end of the film as he delivers his "tears in rain" monologue is a testament to Blade Runner's textural richness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LSQdEkcm6zs
