20 Most Idiotic Film Twists Of All Time
5. Mark Ruffalo Was In On It The Whole Time - Now You See Me
The Twist: FBI agent Dylan Rhodes (Mark Ruffalo) is actually the mysterious benefactor who brought street magicians Daniel (Jesse Eisenburg), Henley (Isla Fisher), Jack (Dave Franco) and Merritt (Woody Harrelson) together. His various schemes throughout the movie have been a means of revenge against those responsible for his father's death in a risky escape trick.
Why It's Stupid: Because it pretty much feels like the twist ending belongs in a completely different movie. It's as though the screenwriters got to the end, knew they wanted to pull off a twist, but couldn't come up with anything more convincing. It feels woefully tacked on and not particularly well telegraphed by the previous 100 minutes. A "gotcha!" without any finesse or logic.
For a movie totally focused on how to execute the art of deception, it's ironic that its own execution is so sorely lacking when it counts the most.
