20 Most Influential Actors Of All Time
9. Al Pacino
Like De Niro, Al Pacino was seemingly everywhere during the '70s and '80s. The sheer power of his performances and his obvious passion on screen make Pacino one hell of a performer to watch. Although he has spent much of his career being compared to De Niro (the classic "Who's better?" debate isn't going away any time soon), they really are very different actors, and both helped usher in completely different kinds of films and acting style.
Pacino is all about intensity. He doesn't get too focused on method acting, and rarely changes his appearance in any way for his roles. What he does do is explode into every scene he gets. He's the definition of a scene-stealer, and his noticeable energy and volume is nothing short of masterful.
His roles in The Godfather Trilogy, Dog Day Afternoon, The Devil's Advocate, Heat and Serpico are perfect examples of the true power of his presence and constantly flawless delivery. His role in Scent of a Woman, which won him his long overdue Oscar, is also a strong addition to the Pacino canon, and his role in Scarface, whilst the more extreme of his performances, is still perfectly fitted to the tone and insanity of the film.
Like De Niro, his output of late hasn't been great, but his recent turn as Jimmy Hoffa in The Irishman perfectly shows just how strong and timeless an actor he really is. He's more than made his mark, and Hollywood is better for it.
