20 Most Intense Movie Scenes Ever

15. "Take Me!" - The Exorcist

The Exorcist Karras

William Friedkin's iconic horror classic concludes with Father Karras (Jason Miller) being left to confront a Pazuzu-possessed Regan (Linda Blair).

Karras tackles the demon and shouts, "Take me! Take me!", at which point Pazuzu moves from Regan's body to Karras'. In the final moments before the possession fully takes root, what remains of Karras is able to launch himself out of Regan's window, killing himself but also casting Pazuzu out.

It's a masterful ending to one of the most intense horror films ever made, all the more effective for its lack of intrusive, bombastic music. Karras' brutal demise remains shocking and pulse-quickening almost 50 years later.
