You know a movie is going to be unpleasantly violent when a string of critics are said to have walked out of screenings in disgust - this is what happened on the release of the Australian serial killer thriller Wolf Creek, with famed critic Roger Ebert declaring, "I wanted to walk out of the theatre and keep on walking". For those with a stronger stomach there are more than enough wince-inducing moments of extreme violence to keep them interested in Wolf Creek, which is loosely based on a variety of true life murders which took place in the Australian outback. But the real draw for the movie is John Jarratt's performance as psychopath Mick Taylor - apparently the actor didn't wash for weeks to get into the role and it certainly paid off. For all the film's lack of grace he's a wonderfully menacing creation.
