20 Most Overlooked Movies Of 2025
10. The Life of Chuck
In a different timeline, Mike Flanagan's The Life of Chuck could've been an awards contender.
This adaptation of Stephen King's novella of the same name won the People's Choice Award at TIFF 2024, which has historically been an extremely strong indicator that a film will be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.
And even though Neon swiftly acquired the film for distribution, they ill-advisedly decided to sit on it for almost an entire year, releasing it this past June long after its festival hype had fizzled out.
It didn't help that Neon did a frankly terrible job of marketing it, enough that Flangan's film died on the vine theatrically and was then dumped on streaming.
Yet this stunning fantasy drama is one of the year's most evocative and unforgettable films - sentimental in mostly the right ways, while bolstered by standout performances from Tom Hiddleston, Mark Hamill, Mia Sara, and Matthew Lillard.
In a year packed with Stephen King adaptations, this just might be the best of the lot.
