15. Norman Stansfield Sends An Army To Deal With Two People €“ Leon

Leon - Stansfield

Gary Oldman is awesome at playing villains, and Leon€™s Norman Stansfield might be up there with the best of them. The bloke€™s some sort of unhinged, terrifying loon, a corrupt cop who has no qualms in conducting public hits over missing cocaine. Such is the fate which befalls Mathilda€™s family, who attracts Stansfield€™s ire after some of the white pony he keeps stashed in the flat goes walkabout. Of course, him peppering Mathilda€™s father with way more bullets than was needed for having the temerity to ruin his suit with blood and gunning down a four-year-old kid just provides the foreshadowing for the hell-bent insanity to come, namely when he sends a huge army of SWAT teamers €“ carrying an RPG, no less €“ along with regular police to apprehend one hitman and a 12-year-old girl. The very act of him sending a horde of blue to take on two people inside a tiny apartment into is one of the most amazingly ridiculous things I€™ve seen in a while. I know Leon is some sort of avenging angel and a clear danger, but still, the amount of men Stansfield sends in is so huge as to be preposterous. I€™m aware he€™s probably higher than a kite throughout the events €“ witness when he yells everyone at Benny €“ but still, there€™s got to be better ways to spend tax dollars than accosting a grumpy plant-growing Frenchman and his ward.
