Though Captain Underpants is based on acclaimed, much-loved source material and features a rock solid cast and crew, it was still tough to believe that a movie called...Captain...Underpants...would score anything more than mixed-positive critical notices.

Around the 60-65% mark seemed right for this one, but it soared far ahead of that number, even earning the coveted "Certified Fresh" status for the consistency of its positive reviews.

Needless to say, many adults had written the movie off on the basis of its name alone, but when it comes down to it, Captain Underpants is a visually stylish and entertainingly self-aware romp that works for kids and grown-ups alike.
