20 Most Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Scores Of 2017

5. Happy Death Day

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 71%

The marketing for Happy Death Day suggested a middling horror riff on Groundhog Day aimed at younger millennials without even the basic thrill of an R rating.

Though the movie is certainly hamstrung by its PG-13 rating and could've done much more with its time loop premise, it is decidedly more entertaining than most adult viewers probably expected.

More satirical than the marketing implied and boosted by Jessica Rothe's highly charismatic performance, Happy Death Day scored easy three-star notices from most critics, which few could've seen coming in the months leading up to its release.
