20 Most Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Scores Of 2019
8. Crawl (83%)
Though Alexandre Aja's new horror film actually looked like a pretty fun B-movie from the marketing, the fact that it wasn't screened in advance for most U.S. critics seemed like a pretty damning statement about its true quality.
Shocking it was, then, when critics paid out of their own pocket to see it and still awarded it a wildly unexpected 83% score, with praise for Aja's direction and the central performances from Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper.
Even those expecting solid reviews likely figured a 60-65% was on the cards, but it performed well enough to earn Certified Fresh status, which surely nobody could've seen coming.
And if its critical and commercial success wasn't enough, Quentin Tarantino even called it his favourite movie of the year.
