After M. Night Shyamalan's two previous films broke his decade-long, five-film critical losing streak - with The Visit (67%) and Split (77%) - it really seemed like the divisive filmmaker was finally back on winning form.

Fans were excited to see how Shyamalan would conclude his unexpected Unbreakable trilogy with Glass, only for reviews to heartbreakingly confirm that the film was a return to the baffling creative choices and self-indulgence of his prior failures.

Though in no way a dud on the level of Shyamalan's worst films, it once again felt like Shyamalan was so concerned with surprising the audience that he didn't really care whether or not it made sense, or whether it was in any way satisfying.

Shyamalan claims the bad reviews for Glass made him cry, but for his long-suffering fans genuinely hopeful that the director's rut of creative failures was over, it was truly agonising.
