20 Most Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Scores Of 2019

18. Zombieland: Double Tap (68%)

As much as everyone wanted Zombieland: Double Tap to be a rare comedy sequel that actually worked, it had a hell of a lot working against it, not least it coming an entire decade after the release of the acclaimed original, which scored a strong 90% with critics.

Then there's the fact that returning director Ruben Fleischer's three movies since Zombieland were all rubbished by critics, with each scoring worse than the one before, culminating in 2018's Venom landing a mere 29% approval rating.

Truly shocking it was, then, when Double Tap opened to a rock solid 68%. While hardly matching the original's brilliance, it was a reverent sequel clearly made for the right reasons, with a returning cast who seemed genuinely happy to be back. What a pleasant surprise.
