20 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of The 21st Century
8. Robot & Frank (2012)
The first thing you notice about Robot & Frank is its charm. Driven forward by a subtly tragic and moving performance from Frank Langella, the film revels in its simplicity and crafts one of the 2010's most surprisingly sweet and underseen dramas.
Langella stars as the eponymous Frank, a former jewel thief suffering from increasingly serious dementia and given a robot (voiced by Peter Sarsgaard) by his son (James Marsden) to help with his day-to-day life.
In time, Frank warms to his new companion and finds an opportunity to pull off one last heist before he dies, and what follows is a bittersweet dramedy about aging and friendship that is as inventive as it is heartbreaking.
Though far from being the most extravagant sci-fi film out there, Robot & Frank is certainly one of the genre's most sweet and moving efforts, and is an absolute joy from start to finish.
