20 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of The 21st Century

18. In Time (2011)

High Life
20th Century Fox

There are few things better in science fiction than a film with an instantly engaging concept, and whilst Andrew Niccol's intriguing thriller doesn't dig into its premise as much as it maybe should have, In Time is still an excellent sci-fi action flick.

In a world where everyone stops aging at 25 and has to work to keep their genetically built-in "clock" from timing out and killing them, young worker Will (Justin Timberlake) finds himself at odds with the system and on a mission to tear the hierarchy down.

Also starring Amanda Seyfried and Cillian Murphy, In Time works brutally quick, and throws its audiences into Will's frantically dangerous situation with little warning.

It would be fair to dismiss the film as yet another tale of the underdog taking down society's biggest powers, but between Timberlake's competent lead performance, Murphy's compelling villain and the film's clever socio-economic themes, it's entertainment value speaks for itself.

I get to write about what I love, so that's pretty cool. Every great film should seem new every time you see it. Be excellent to each other.
