20 Most Underrated Sci-Fi Movies Of The 21st Century

14. Attack The Block (2011)

After aliens invade their South London council estate, a street gang (led by John Boyega in his debut role) gear up and move out in hopes of taking the monsters down and gaining some fame. They're joined by a nurse (Jodie Whittaker) and a local drug dealer (Nick Frost) in their crusade.

Directed by Joe Cornish, Attack the Block is a British sci-fi flick bursting with violent flare, heavy action sequences, endearing performances and undeniable charm. It refuses to get bogged down in the details of its plot, and instead focusses on the action side of things, with nerve-jangling results.

In the UK, the film stands as a cult favourite, though has slipped under the radar of international audiences despite making stars out of Boyega and Whittaker and rocking a killer soundtrack over its frequently funny tone and bloodthirsty violence.
