Why It's Hated: It's popular to hate these movies regardless of whether you've actually seen them, and while the majority of the franchise is genuinely terrible, the original just gets lumped in with them for the sake of it.

Why It's Unfair: The first Twilight is a singular look at the experiences of a hormonal teenage girl, and it explores this perspective in a highly bizarre, unique way.

Catherine Hardwicke's solid direction manages to paper over a few so-so performances, and though the central relationship is fairly questionable at best, it's easy to see why so many young teenage girls managed to connect with the warm-blooded lust of Bella and Edward's pairing.

It's really not a bad film at all, even if its success is responsible for kick-starting a conveyor belt of these movies, but so few of the haters have actually sat down and watched the first movie, because it's easier to just jump on the bandwagon.

Plus, if you don't at least smirk at the baseball scene, you might not have a soul.
