Though on paper Spiral seemed primed to offer up a much-needed rejuvenation of the Saw franchise, its big twist ended up being the most pathetically predictable of the entire series.

In the third act, it's revealed that the Jigsaw copycat is in fact Zeke's (Chris Rock) presumed-dead partner Detective Schenk (Max Minghella), who wants to punish corrupt cops after one of them murdered his father when he was a child.

It's a painfully deflating reveal because it's so hilariously obvious earlier in the movie that Schenk's "death" is a fake-out: we never see him die and his "corpse" has been skinned, leaving even casual Saw fans able to guess what's coming.

As much promise as Spiral had, it really whiffed it when it came to delivering a clever, surprising, and satisfying reveal - this just felt lazy and uninspired.
