20 Movie Auditions For Famous Roles You Need To See
12. Kurt Russell As Han Solo - Star Wars
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nix_PID3oiA It's fun to hear about the audition process for the Star Wars films, because so many actors who read for the main parts went on to become famous for other projects, and the actors who did work on the film became intrinsically linked to their iconic characters. Can you even stomach the idea of anyone other than Harrison Ford playing the role of Han Solo, for example? But back then, Kurt Russell actually got pretty close to winning the role. Watching the audition, you can see immediately that he's not quite right as Han Solo. He has a very commanding, authoritative presence, and seems more like someone who would be commanding a star cruiser than the scrappy misfit pilot of the Millennium Falcon.
11. Alyson Hannigan As Michelle - American Pie
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekiM_o7MLZc By the time 25-year-old Alyson Hannigan had won the role of Michelle Flaherty in American Pie, she was already a veteran of the film industry, having begun her acting career thirteen years earlier. It was 1999, and she was then famous primarily for her winning performance as Willow Rosenberg on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, where she played the consummate nerd. But where Willow was shy and unassuming, her reading as Michelle is gleeful and sexually confident. She stutters a bit on her soon-to-be-famous "One time at band camp" lines, but it's hard to be won over by her audition. She brings such a youthful enthusiasm to her lines that is diametrically opposed to the sexually deviant acts that she's discussing, and it totally works. Out of all the characters in American Pie, her's is the biggest surprise, and it's immediately clear why she would become one of the film's biggest breakout stars.
