The Film

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is one of the most memorable family comedies of the 1980s, though both of the sequels were duds (with 1997's Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves going straight-to-video).

It was just a matter of time before a remake was announced, and earlier this year, reports emerged that Disney was prepping a new Honey, I Shrunk the Kids movie, which will most likely forego a theatrical release in favour of a debut on Disney's new streaming platform.

Is It A Good Idea?

While it's sensible to raise your eyebrows at a property as marketable as this not even releasing in cinemas, if sufficient money and care is invested in its production, this could be a terrific statement of intent for Disney's top secret streaming service.

Seeing the concept updated with modern visual effects could be a lot of fun, even if it'll struggle to match the charm of Rick Moranis' performance and Joe Johnston's bonkers direction.
