20 Movie Remakes You Didn’t Know Were In The Works

John Carpenter's classic 1986 fantasy comedy was first eyed for a remake in June 2015, when it emerged that Dwayne Johnson was being sought to fill the shoes of Kurt Russell's Jack Burton and also produce the movie under his Seven Bucks Productions label.
No director is involved yet, though Johnson is keen to have Carpenter involved in some form, while scripting duties go to Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Thor).
Is It A Good Idea?
If you ask Carpenter himself, he's said to be "ambivalent" about it, and given the quintessentially 80s, goofy B-movie tone of the original, it'd be incredibly difficult to replicate that style in the present.
That said, Johnson is a pretty great choice to replace Russell, and his recent success with Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle - which his production company helped produce - is clear proof that he can take a beloved, decades-old concept and rejuvenate it for modern audiences.
The writers seem talented enough, so it really just depends on who directs it and who gets roped in alongside Johnson. Wait and see.
