20 Movie Remakes You Didn’t Know Were In The Works
17. A Nightmare On Elm Street
The Film
After 2010's remake of the 1984 Wes Craven horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street tanked with critics - though performed solidly at the box office - plans for a franchise were quickly put to bed.
In August 2015, however, it was confirmed that New Line Cinema was pressing on with a second remake, with a script written by David Leslie Johnson (Orphan, The Conjuring 2).
Is It A Good Idea?
Craven's original has aged exceptionally well for the most part, so the world really doesn't need a second dispassionate remake. A reboot which takes the series in a new direction could work, especially if they committed to the "Freddy was innocent" twist that was toyed with but chickened out of in the remake.
Robert Englund has already taken himself out of contention for appearing in anything but a cameo, and Jackie Earle Haley presumably won't be back as Freddy either (though he was the one bright spot of the remake), so there are just a ton of question marks and red flags here.
Writer Johnson has solid genre chops, but without a director or cast yet assembled, it's hard to expect anything from this except a listless me-too remake.
