He might have Star Wars IX and Jurassic World 2 scripting and producing on his plate currently, but it looked like Colin Trevorrow's next film after the excellent Safety Not Guaranteed would be a remake of seminal 80s family flick Flight Of The Navigator. He's a bit busy now, of course, so he doesn't seem to think he's still involved.

In June 2015 he said that "I think it's moved on", after confirming that he had written a screenplay for it with Derek Connolly. Quite who is looking after it now remains to be seen (though Wikipedia still lists Trevorrow as the director), and it is still in some form of production.

Perhaps, like the rest of the world, it's just waiting for Star Wars IX to come out.

Is It A Good Idea?

It's possibly way too 80s to exist properly outside of the decade, but it is one of those that could really do with a shot in the arm by modern advancements in film-making technology.

And, whisper it, but the original was never as good as the nostalgic appreciation of it seems to suggest. So there's definitely space for a redo.
