20 Movie Sequels That Are Totally Flawless
11. The Bride Of Frankenstein (1935)
Bride of Frankenstein - released four years after the Monster's Universal debut - is one of the best gothic horror movies ever made, surpassing its predecessor in every way with a movie as darkly humorous as it is terrifying, and as strangely touching as it is utterly timeless. Despite being over eighty, it still feels fresh and exciting.
The movie follows Boris Karloff's Monster as he and Doctor Pretorius force Doctor Frankenstein to create a mate for the Monster to love. What follows is a movie of moody scares and dark, ominous tones, which moves between bizarre character study to morbid horror in mere scenes.
Between Karloff's towering central role and the movie's intense eye for grotesque set pieces, Bride of Frankenstein is simultaneously silly and haunting, and is one of the best instalments in the Universal Horror franchise.
