Before he ventured into the big world of Skynet and time-travelling Terminators with Judgement Day, James Cameron was called in to direct Aliens, the daring and long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror classic Alien, and right from the off he proved to be the perfect man for the job.

Maintaining the atmospheric horror of the original movie but dialling the action and stakes up to eleven, Aliens is what happens when a sequel knows exactly what it's going for, and refuses to push itself too far or disrespect what came before.

From the surprisingly touching introduction of Newt to Ripley's thrilling evolution to an unstoppable badass, Aliens manages to be both an all-timer of an action flick and an unblemished horror yarn with tons of scares amongst the bullets and explosions. The franchise peaked here, and the results are simply divine.
