20 Movie Sequels That Are Totally Flawless

Helmed by the ever-brilliant Matt Reeves, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes deserves to go down as one of the greatest sequels in blockbuster history, and the fact that it's so routinely left out of lists such as this is an absolute tragedy.

Taking place years after Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn takes place in a world where most of humankind are dead, and the apes live in relative peace in the forests. This peace comes under threat when they encounter a human settlement intent on protecting themselves at any cost.

A visually sublime and thematically challenging drama centred on war, oppression and survival, Dawn is a film that uses its themes to give the spectacular action sequences and deeply troubled characters meaning under the carnage. It's flawless stuff, and Andy Serkis' greatest performance is just the icing on the cake.
