20 Movie Sequels That Are Totally Flawless

14. Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan (1982)

Following on from 1979's clunky, meandering Star Trek: The Motion Picture, The Wrath of Khan was released in an attempt to improve on basically every aspect of the franchise's first trip to the big screen. Not only was the sequel an improvement, but it remains the greatest Trek movie of all time.

Directed by Nicholas Meyer, the film follows the Enterprise crew as they come face-to-face with enraged and vengeful tyrant Khan Singh, who quickly proves to their deadliest villain as he seeks to destroy Captain Kirk.

Wrath of Khan features some of the franchise's most memorable scenes, including Spock's heartbreaking but logical final sacrifice to save his friends, and carves out of its internal drama a sci-fi masterclass with genuinely worrying threats and a sense of exciting unpredictability. Star Trek has never been so fun or emotionally crushing.
