Previous Film: Matthew Vaughn's just-released adaptation of Mark Millar's acclaimed graphic novel series may not have been perfect, but it still served as a fine counter-point to the sombre nature of the Daniel Craig Bond flicks. Silly but also boasting an adult sense of humour amid graphic violence, Kingsman is a spy flick for the modern age. Why It Needs To Happen: Because, as Matthew Vaughn himself put it, the first movie is really just an origin story for protagonist Eggsy (Taron Egerton), and simply sets the stage for a franchise, just like with James Bond. If each new movie touts a wacky villain and an exotic location yet with self-aware humour and outlandish action, it could continue to fill a fine anti-Bond niche. Current Status: Vaughn has already said, "I€™d love to do another one" and thinks the next logical step is introducing an American branch of Kingsman. It all depends on the box office, and the film has been off to a strong start so far, so the prospects are pretty good.
