20 Movie Sequels That Were JUST Confirmed

Even though Gremlins 2: The New Batch was a massive box office flop in 1990, the franchise has remained consistently popular over the 35 years since.

For more than a decade now, various attempts have been made to get a third Gremlins film going - both a reboot and a direct sequel to the original two - seemingly to no avail.

Though in early 2025 it was announced that Warner Bros. was developing Gremlins 3 with original writer Chris Columbus set to both pen the script and direct, it still wasn't easy for many to believe it was actually going to happen.

But back in November, things started to get real, as Warner Bros. announced a hard release date of the film for November 19, 2027, while confirming that Columbus would be co-writing the film alongside Final Destination Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein.

Many fans are still anxious for confirmation that the new film will definitely use practical puppetry instead of CGI - a prospect that, frankly, seems unlikely in the current filmmaking paradigm. Here's hoping, though.
